Prerequisites

•  An iPhone running iOS 16 or later with the Apple Configurator app installed (available from the App Store).

•  Access to Apple Business Manager (ABM) or Apple School Manager (ASM) and an admin account.

•  Microsoft Intune admin access to configure device enrolment profiles.

•  The device to be enrolled must not already be managed by another MDM solution.

•  A stable Wi-Fi connection.

Step 1: Prepare in Apple Business Manager (IT&T - DONE)

  1. Sign in to Apple Business Manager with your admin account.
  2. Ensure your Intune MDM server is already configured in ABM/ASM. If not, add it by navigating to Settings > MDM Servers > Add MDM Server.
  3. Download the server token from Intune and upload it to ABM/ASM if required.

Step 2: Prepare the Intune Enrolment Profile (IT&T - DONE)

  1. Log in to the Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin centre.
  2. Go to Devices > iOS/iPadOS > iOS/iPadOS enrolment > Enrolment Program Tokens.
  3. Select your ABM/ASM token, then create or edit an enrolment profile as required (set device naming, user affinity, etc.).

Step 3: Add the Device to Apple Business Manager Using Apple Configurator (CUSTOMER)

  1. On your master iPhone, open the Apple Configurator app (Make Sure iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi).
  2. Sign in with the AppleID for the Apple Business Manager
  3. Once Signed in the app may prompt for settings, if not, select the settings icon in the app.
  4. Follow Settings: Network configuration - select “Share Wi-Fi” MDM Server Assignment – “Specific” Select “MDM Service” Press “Back” / Press “Done”
  5. On the device to be enrolled, power it on and ensure it’s on the Hello screen (factory reset if necessary – See End of Document on How to Reset). Click through:

• Language: English

• Country and Region: Australia

• Appearance: Large

• Set Up Without Another Device

• On the Wifi page: Hover the Camera over the Circle on the Device (This will Prompt you to join the device) Tell IT&T Tech when you get to the “Erase iPhone/iPad Added Screen”

  1. Leave the device on this page until further instruction for IT&T

Step 4: Sync the Device to the Intune and Assign the Profile (IT&T)

  1. Return to Intune [Home > Devices | Enrollment > Enrollment program tokens > MDM Service]
  2. Click Sync.
  3. Click Refresh after 2 minutes, you should see the new device.
  4. Once 15 minutes have passed, Assign the profile to the new device, then ask user to click “Erase” on the device.

Step 5: Complete Enrolment on the iOS Device (CUSTOMER)

  1. Begin setup as normal, Join to Wi-Fi Network.
  2. When prompted, the device will display a remote management screen and prompt to enrol in Intune.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup and sign in with the appropriate credentials if required.
  4. Once setup is complete, the device will be managed by Intune and receive any assigned policies or configurations.

Troubleshooting Tips

•  If the device does not appear in ABM/ASM, ensure it’s on the Wi-Fi and try again.

•  Double-check that your Intune MDM server is properly configured in ABM/ASM.

•  Confirm network connectivity throughout the process.
